The "Multidimensional Unit" a.k.a. Refaim (ghost / יחידת רפאים = Ghost Unit); was formed in 2019 as the flagship project of then-Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi. Its role is locating and striking terrorists deep inside Gaza combat zones using advanced technology tools.
It currently includes troops from infantry, air force, intelligence, engineering, armored and canine units.
The photo (c. June 2024) shows the flag displayed in the operations room of the unit. Caption: "Preparations for an operation by the unit in Gaza, late last month. (Credit: Moti Milrod)".
This unit is also known under the name "Unit 888". Its emblem and insignia show the number 8 wrapped around a sword. The 8 symbolizes the infinite evolution of the unity. Refaim is not a static object, but is constantly changing and evolving. (see also Wikipedia)

The Unit is a multi-armed (integrated) maneuver body that operates in all combat fields, as a Special Operations Force. The unit is also tasked with proving new operational technology on the battlefield that could serve as potential technology for other units. The unit will serve as a vanguard for the maneuver units in the future battlefield and for the development of combat methods.

The Unit's badge and shoulder patch insignia consists "of an IDF sword integrated into the number eight and embedded with arrows pointing in different directions. The leading motifs in the unit tag idea are integration, synergy and lethality."

It is an Infantry commando Unit (part of the Special Forces) announced in 2019 and established in February 2020. The number of the unit is 888, and it pretends to represent and emphasize its uninterrupted activity, using the similitude of the number 8 with the symbol of infinity (∞).
